Sustain & Engage

We are focused on
balancing our impact on;
the planet, people and the future.

Our Approach To Sustainability

Stage Engage is committed to promoting sustainability and we recognise the important role that we should play as an event production company in helping our clients to achieve maximum sustainability and minimum negative environmental impact.

Concern for the environment and promoting a broader sustainability agenda are integral to Stage Engage's professional activities and the management of the organisation. We aim to follow and to promote good sustainability practice, to reduce the environmental impacts of all our activities and to help our clients and partners to do the same.

We always aim…

  • To comply with, and exceed where practicable, all applicable legislation, regulations and codes of practice.

  • To integrate sustainability considerations into all our business decisions

  • To ensure that all staff are fully aware of our sustainability guidelines

  • To minimise the impact on sustainability of all office and transportation activities

  • To make clients and suppliers aware of our sustainability issues, and encourage them to adopt sound sustainable management practices

Our Office Locations

We have made positive changes that impact on our business’ impact on the environment by:

  • Opening a new branch in West London in 2017

  • Focusing on forward planning of our jobs to ensure that we have the right kit in the right Stage Engage bases to minimise unnecessary transport or equipment

  • Investing in key equipment to ensure we have commonly used equipment in both our bases to reduce the need to transfer equipment between locations.

Sustainability In Our Offices

As far as possible arrange for the reuse or recycling of office waste, including paper, computer supplies and redundant equipment

  • Reduce the energy consumption of office equipment by purchasing energy efficient equipment and good housekeeping

  • Opting to purchase electricity from a supplier committed to renewable energy. Seeking to maximise the proportion from renewable energy sources, whilst also supporting investment in new renewable energy schemes

  • Digitising all note taking and plan drawing to reduce our consumption of paper and consumables

  • Minimising our use of paper and other office consumables, for example by double-siding all paper used, and identifying opportunities to reduce waste

Travel to our Offices, Meetings and Site Visits

Our Policy says that our team must…

  • Walk, cycle and/or use public transport to attend meetings, site visits, apart from in exceptional circumstances where the alternatives are impractical and/or cost prohibitive.

  • Avoid physically travelling to meetings where alternatives are available and practical, such as using teleconferencing, video conferencing or web cams

  • Efficiently schedule meetings to avoid multiple trips.

  • In order to reduce the need to travel to meetings and elsewhere, and facilitate regular client contact, schedule regular virtual meetings with our clients.

  • Reduce the need for our staff to travel by supporting alternative working arrangements, including flexible working (WFH), and promote the use of public transport by locating our offices in accessible locations.

Logistics, Delivery and Transport for our events

Our Policy says that our team must…

Carefully assess the impact of moving equipment around and choose the most sustainable options. This includes opting to locally source high volume equipment rather than transport it from our bases long-distance.

  • Aim to hire local crew for non-specialist technical roles to reduce need for long-distance travel

  • Include the full costs of more sustainable forms of transport in our financial proposals, rather than the least cost option which may involve travelling by car or air. Where the only practical alternative is to fly, we will include costs for full air fares rather than budget airlines in our financial proposals

Investing in sustainable, low impact equipment and transport

Electric Vehicles

  • We have invested in our fleet of vehicles by purchasing a number of electric cars for use in travelling to and from events that we are working on, site visits, meetings, and between our office locations

  • Since 2019 we have reduced the number of non-electric car journeys by 50%

Technical Equipment

  • Wherever possible we promote the use of LED Walls and projection in place of single use, throw-away, printed materials

  • We promote the use of LED Digital Lecterns and Digital Totems to replace printed, single-use signage

  • We have invested in low-energy displays and LED lighting across the business to reduce energy consumption when we are working at an event

  • In 2019 we made significant ongoing investment in rechargeable batteries and charging equipment for our battery powered devices

  • Velcro straps – we have invested in fitting Velcro straps to a large proportion of our cables to significantly reduce our use of plastic tape

  • Drapes, banners and other materials – we have moved to utilising reusable bungee cords to store and transport these items

  • We are constantly assessing our equipment storage and transportation solutions and wherever possible reducing the sizes and quantity of flight cases and trunks so that we reduce the transport requirements.

  • Where we use vehicles that are not electric or hybrid, we opt for efficient & fuel economical vehicles under 3 years of age

Materials - Choosing, Reusing and Upcyling

Our team work hard to…

  • Ensure that where possible, timber furniture, and any other timber products, are recycled or from well-managed, sustainable sources and are Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certified

  • Choose materials and resources that are non-polluting, recyclable and less harmful for the environment when disposed of

  • Promote the use of cardboard or recyclable and sustainable signage and printed materials when proposing solutions to our clients

  • Reuse and Upcycle materials – we carry out regular stock checks of our fabricated set and bespoke fabrication stock to identify opportunities to utilize parts and elements of this stock in future fabrication requirements.

  • Reuse carpets wherever possible

  • Carefully plan each event to ensure maximum efficiency in equipment and resources

  • Select suppliers who share the same values and emphasis on sustainability as we do.

Our Commitment to Sustainability Schemes

We have made significant financial and time investment into reforestation and conservation projects including planting trees surrounding our Exeter base.
